I very much doubt there will be a road in our lifetimes - there's a great deal of politics involved, drugs, AND a great deal of interest in the ecological side of it too. NO ONE wants a road except travellers and drug smugglers.

There's no political will to build the road. It's just as easy from a trade perspective to ship stuff, and people with business (Colombians in Panamá and vice versa) fly between the two. As noted, no one wants a road except overlanders...

Not to late? 1 final voyage from Mexico to Cuba!! March to April 2021
Sold and Lulu says it will stay in Mexico for the time being,, don't know what their plans are for it? I am sure after some future considerations, virus and probably new border restrictions, there will be someone to fill the void? Hope so!!
As always carefull on who you choose for crossing , some good, most bad.

Does anyone have any current information on the Panama - Colombia hop?
I'm looking to do it in a month or two, but hitting a lot of dead ends. Keen to get a boat if possible...
Apologies if this isn't the right thread to ask!
Thanks,
Crendon

I used the flight and it was flawless.
The flight is quick, as is getting your bike out. No hassles.
The boat option closes down for the whole hurricane season and that’s why I took the plane but I’m happy with the result.
Incidentally, I had no trouble at any Central America borders either.

Old Sailors never die
Captain Ludwig (Lulu) is helping organize sailing from Panama to Columbia. He was the captain from the old Stahratte.

If anyone could post info on the air freight option between Panama and Colombia and return, I'd appreciate it. Planning on (depending on Covid) riding from the USA to hopefully as far as Colombia and return in Dec. or Jan.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
