shipping from Buenous Aires to England

Hi all,
well my trip is going good i am now in mendoza, having a bit of a break. I am wondering if anybody knows of good shipping companies or information from people about costs and advice....ect, from Buenous Aires to England (any port) would be greatly appreciated! Its quite strange actually i am an Australian with a Californian registered bike (in my name and address in Australia) and heading to England to work for 1-2yrs, it should be fun!!!!! Anyway i had no problems at the borders (in regards to paperwork)for the total trip through centeral and south america.its quite sad now as my trip feels like it is comming to an end,it has been a fun trip from Los angeles, but i know i will be back in 2-3 yrs, so something to plan for. Thanks very much..

Troy

Hi
we shipped from BA to Australia but the shipping company we used were very good. Not sure if they ship to Europe but you could try.
JAS Shipping
I do not have the address to hand but will dig it out for you and post it later. They speak english and were very helpful. Please remember the relaxed pace of the south american people and then you will get the service you want, it may take a few days to organise but hey who is in a hurry, especially when its the end of a trip!!

They helped us with all the paperwork, customs, building of the crates, etc.

Also somewhere in my paperwork I have a contact name at the BMW garage in BA, if you email him ahead of you needing the crate he will happily save you one if they have one come in. We just went there on the offchance and he had thrown four away the previous day!!!Cost us $100 to get one made but it was very solid!!

Glad to hear you had no paperwork problems all through CA & SA, we did not either

Good Luck
Annette

Here is the address of the shipping company we used.
Jas Jet Air Services
Talcahuano 833 1st floor
C1013AAQ Buenos Aires
Tele: (54-11)5811 7777
The mans name is Louis
or you could ask to speak to Rafael Cavallini (he speaks better english than Louis when it comes to the nitty gritty talk).
rcavallini@jasargentina.com
We have freinds that used this company from Oz to Buenos Aires so we used them on recommendation. They helped us with the crate as well built at the port.

You could try Hellmans, but they were so expensive and could not really give us answers to alot of the charges they had on their quote!!!

Hellamns Worldwide Logistics
Ave Corrientes 531 3rd floor
Florida
Buenos Aires
Tele: (54-11) 4394 3770
ezequiel.gelber@hellams.net

It is best if you let JAS sort out the customs as it proved hard work just for us to find the right customs office!! Also be aware you have to have paperwork signed by solicitors/notaries, cost us about 40 pounds for the two motorbikes, Jas will point you in the right direction

Javiar and Sandra of the communities are great people and you should get in touch and go for a with them. Say John and Annette from england say hello should you contact them.
Good luck
Annette

Dunno what bike you shipped (mine's a GS) - was wondering what they charged, and how much notice / time the whole process took, i.e. whether I would need to book in advance?

Hi Ian,
well i am in the process at the moment, i´ll let you know. I am shipping my bike from San Luis actually as i fell ill with a ruptured appendicitis, which turned into peritonitis, so i have been very i´ll actually, but it is only goin g to cost an extra 190 usd from San luis. The other problem is i can´t make the crate myself as i now have a gapping wound dur to wound infection as a result of a complication to the peritonitis. So i am laying in a motel roon in Buenous aires at the moment feeling sorry for myself..haha. But i have got 2 quotes around the same, around 1200usd, including from San luis and crating (bastards) the actual shipping cost is around 260usd excluding customs fees and dock fees here. They want 300usd for custiçoms fees, but you can do that yourself and around 150usd for dock fees. so i am doing it the expensive way, but i have no choice, but i am going to try and get the insurance company to pay as they have stuffed up on many a thing. I hope this is some help to you. the shipping company i am going to use is¨:

interworldcargo.
PH: local number 4314 8787.
ask to speak to marcela, she is the one who speaks english.

And you have to be carefull that the 21% tax is included in the price!!!!!!!!!

Have fun mate

Hi
I am not sure if Ian is asking the original posting what bike he is hipping or us but if it is us here is the costs we paid from BA to OZ for TWO BMW R80GS's.
PLEASE REMEMBER THIS WAS IN MAY 2003

Copies needed for the customs of all our paperwork from a notary, signed 48USD
Two Crates built and packed 300USD (john supervised the work)
Customs was 150USD
Shipping 885USD, including local charges, bill of lading, consolidation.
TOTAL = 1,333USD for two motorbikes

This was using JAS.It took us about 5 days to sort out from the time we went to their office to the bikes being in the crate. Once the ship left we had to wait 3 days for the original bill of lading to state that they had left on the ship. You can email them and ask them to send you a shipping schedule.

Hellmans quoted us about 300USD more but some of the things that were on their quote we questioned and they could not give us a reasonable answer to the charge.

Like I said I am not sure if they go to the UK but what you could try is shipping to Germany and then riding to the UK, it may work out cheaper.

TROY
Sorry to hear about your illness, hope you get better soon. Have a safe trip to the UK

John and Annette

Thanks guys - Troy, sorry to hear your troubles, trust you're on the mend now!

You are both talking about shipping as in "ships" rather than planes? Advice I've heard over the years has been that air shipping is not really any more expensive - just wondered if you'd compared? Maybe it is on a long haul such as this? I had to read your posts a couple of times as doesn't JAS stand for "Jet Air Services"?

Hi
Sorry, for the confusion
Yes, we are talking shipping as in 'Ships'. Jas -- Does stand for Jet Air Services but they also deal with shipping via sea.

We talked to alot of people during our 3 year trip about the pros and cons of 'Air or Sea' freight?
We came to the conclusion that if you have limited time then you should consider air freight. If you have all the time in the world (so to speak) you might as well use sea freight. When we shipped via sea from BA to Oz,the motorbikes would take 6 weeks to get there, so we made a quick visit to the UK,then went and sat on a beach in Bali for 3 weeks.
When we shipped from NZ to Spain, we found a beautiful beach in Malaysia to sit on whilst the motorbikes enjoyed the 6 weeks vogage via ship!!!

We did not compare the costs, so we cannot help you on that one. But JAS will fly it for you I am sure.

Good luck

OK, Thanks.

I think the "air" advice was mainly from Grant Johnson - I'll compare the two nearer the time.
