Peru to Copacabana border crossing 90 day visa

Crossed from Peru to Bolivia today, near Copacabana. Just thought I'd let you know that they put only wanted to put 30 days in my passport at first, but then I asked for 90. The immigration officer said no because he didnt have the stamp. Then his mate said he did have a 90 day stamp so they gave me 90 days.
The man in aduana said he could only give me 30 days for the bike at a border, but then I asked for 90 and he gave me it anyway with a cheeky smile like he didnt care what the rules are. Like Bolivia already.

We crossed into Bolivia at Kasani near Copacabana on Sep 21, 2014. There was only one guy working the Aduana that day, a short older guy who proved to be an absolute pain in the ass. According to the stamp on the Aduana form his name is Oscar.
Long story short the length of your visa depends on your passport.
free and 90 days if you are French
$55 and 30 days if you are from South Africa
$180 and 90 days with a US passport
Or at least it is what we were told by the immigration officer.

The temporary import permit is free, don't let the guy pressure you into paying up, and is set for the length of your tourist visa

We crossed here a week ago, you just have to give a photocopy of the registration card (our reg card has all the info of the bike), and your passport to the aduana officer. My registration card has my name on it. As soon as you start the process to get the temporary permit, let the officer know the time you want the vehicle to be in Bolivia (90 days max). They assume everyone needs just 30 days, after all the doc is done on the system they cannot make any changes.

Aha, the pain in the ass old guy!! He was the only Aduanas person in about 35 South American border crossings I've done to scrutinise my TVIP when I was DEPARTING, to find a one digit error in my chassis number (which he colleague has entered, not me) and then bribe me. To top it off, he accepted a mere 10 Peruvian Soles - about three bucks. If you're gonna bribe someone, at least take a shot at a more substantial sum!!!
