Honda XR250 Tornado or Yamaha 250 Tenere?

Hi all,

I am thinking about setting up a simple motorbike rental service in Argentina which rents out durable motorbikes and everything else needed for simple motorbike traveling (no guided tours , only semi small bikes) at a cheap price. When I wanted this service I could only find motorbike rentals for 100 USD< per day and could not afford that.

I don't know if it's OK to ask in here, but I'm going to do it anyway since there are many people much more clever than me. I originally thought about using the Honda XR250 Tornado, but someone recommended me looking at Yamaha Tenere 250.

If you were to rent a motorbike <400 cc for a 2-4 week motorbike holiday in South America, what would you go for?

Seeing as in neither of these bikes are being made anymore I'd say the XTZ250 or the XRE300

I own a Tornado in South America, durable, good suspension, can be lowered for my 29 inch inseam... I'd like to buy/rent a Honda XR190 for my wife; lower seat height, fuel injection, 21 inch front wheel.

The XRE300 is the replacement for the Tornado; popular, but not sure if it can be lowered easily for 29 inch inseam. Fuel injection is a huge plus.

All these motos are good for dirt roads, detours, mud, tricky areas; but at the same time do well on typical South America main roads. Japanese technology is more reliable than China clones, from my experience.

From other sources, it appears you have to get US $50 to $60 per day for these motos, in order to be able to stay in business. Locate your business, considering decent international access and good riding close by. Good luck on your endeavor!

Really? Christ that doesn't seem fair! For me the tornado and the tenere are far better than the XRE and XTZ that have replaced them! I never checked the prices firmly but aren't bikes in Argentina far more expensive than the rest of south America?

I own the xre300, it was 5300 new in Peru but 6600 new in Argentina. It weighs 20kg more than the tornado and riding position is just not suited to proper off road riding like the tornado.

I haven't checked the other prices in Argentina, but Argentinians all told me that the prices of new bikes are much higher there.
