a bit late but more info
ill chip in here.
We are traveling north.
1.we crossed Equidor to Columbia. we did not carry any paperwork across the border. therefore you do not have to actually sign the bikes out. You might have to check though what it is like the other way. Possibly contact soomerwinds Finca-Sommerwind - Ecuador They are a famous overlander stopping point just inside the Equidor border and are very help full towards travelers. they could know the border formalities. Also i know a biker who just crossed so i could ask him.
2.storage places, Starlratte- the boat that ships many bikes across to Columbia has storage. He charges 3usd a day. There are other storage places around. ill leave my email at the bottom as i would need to as a few other travelers.
3. we have heard the Columbian Police love confiscating overstayed bikes and due to the drug check points everywhere you are very likely to get checked. But, there is only two places you temporary import permit is kept. one is in the office that you got it at and the other is your copy. So a little photoshop on the dates could work.
feel free to ask questions
