French Guiana - Suriname Border (Visum rules - Dutch Travelers))

Dutch Travelers coming from French Guiana and want to enter Suriname at the border crossing St. Laurent du Maroni/Albina, can buy a so-called "Toeristenkaart" at the "Consulaat van Suriname" in Saint Laurent du Maroni for Euro 42 CB.
The opening times are from Monday till Friday from 08.00h-12.00h and from 14.00h-16.00h.

Guyana - Suriname Border

If you are traveling east from Guyana into Suriname, you'll need to get a tourist card or visa in Georgetown. Get to the Suriname Embassy by 11:00 AM to fill out the application and drop off 2 passport photos and your passport. I forget if you have to pay the fee in advance. Come back in the afternoon, have a short chat/interview and you're ready to go. Memory from November 2012 says the fee was $40-45 USD. The fees vary by country. I was traveling on an Irish passport.

As with every country, the motorcycle importation paperwork is issued at the border. As luck would have it, the official preparing my importation paperwork wrote 10 (for the month of October) instead of 11 (for the month of November.) On paper my motorcycle over stayed the time limit by a month. The error was noticed when leaving Suriname for French Guiana and after a few awkward moments the mistake was acknowledged as originating from their customs and I was stamped out.

Insurance?

2WheeledAdventure,

What did you do for insurance in French Guiana? Did you have a European insurance policy that covers French Guiana?

I couldn't find short term insurance and the 6 month policies was expensive. I managed to not get stopped without insurance. Getting into the country was difficult without it, but possible.

I bought online a dutch so called "Export Insurance". These insurances are valid for 15 days and are possible to registrate on foreign licence plates & engine numbers. Cost including GreenCard for Cat B Motorbike (2015) € 89,95

French Guiana is part of the EU, all EU car/bike insurances with GreenCard are valid.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
