SELL 200cc Quito or Columbia BUDGET

Hi everyone,

This is my last chance selling my 200cc chinese Dual Sport AS SOON AS POSSIBLE around Quito, Ecuador or southern Columbia. It's an engine with carburator and it has disk brake in the front and drum brake in the back. I bought the bike in Bolivia NEW and it has around 10.000 km right now.

It's a PEGASUS KTX 200, the brand is mainly sold in Bolivia. It's done a great job so far. It comes with a helmet with european standard E13 as well as a full upper body protector from FOX. Moreover, I provide all necessary tools for basic repairing, as well as some spare parts. Oil change has been done every 1000 km and everything works fine, without problems.
I enlarged the rack, so its possible to carry a big backpack.

I ask only $500, as I have to get rid of it soon.

I live and work in South America (40 years in Peru) and know all the details about this....

I hate to squash your dreams, but selling a bike outside of the country it is registered in is ILLEGAL and the new owner will never be able to get it in his/her name or take it out of that country, no matter what you have heard was allowed in the past.

Once the TVIP expires, a CAPTURE ORDER goes out for the motorcycle and the person riding it will be arrested. After that date the vehicle belongs to the government!

Plus the person who brought it in the country (Ecuador in this case) will not be able to return to Ecuador on the same passport without being arrested for TAX FRAUD.

For the best price (and for it to be able to be put in a new persons name (a requirement to cross borders) it needs to go back to the country it is registered in (in this case Bolivia) or just sell it for parts to a shop in Ecuador.

This might be a never ending discussion and finding reliable information about that is almost impossible. All I have is my personal experience.

I met guys in Bolivia who bought chilenean plated bikes from other travelers and were able to cross into Peru. I think they had a permission from these guys they bought the bikes from. On the other hand they told me it was a lot of struggle and took them quite some time.
Also in a Hostel in Quito the german receptionist showed me the permission someone wrote to sell his chilenean plated car to another traveler. Moreover he showed me the email this traveler wrote after crossing the border to Peru, saying that it worked without any problems.

That are just two examples, that it can be possible!

xfiltrate, also with long-time experience in South America, will probably come along and say exactly the same thing as charapashanperu - and of course they are both absolutely correct.

Also correct are the many stories from travelers stating that they got away with it. Just have to recognise that "getting away with it" is not the same as being legal. Often it works, but sometimes may not.

and where are all the links to the stories of travelers being put behind bars with * CAPTURE ORDERS* for *TAX FRAUD* ???

The truth is: Rabhauke bought the bike in Bolivia. Charapashanperu predicted all kind of trouble with the bike, if he would not buy from him. And now we can see that Rabhauke did his journey without problems.

And you know, he will sell the bike without problems, as hundreds have done here on the Hubb.

Just my 2cents worth for today.

I said the person who buys it is screwed, not him (unless he comes back)! Why is it that we westerners think we can just screw with the laws in South America??

Do we think ourselves SUPERIOR??

So what would I have to do if I were to buy the moto of him?
Is it just pretty much impossible to cross any further border or how difficult would it be to get the bike licensed under my name?

I haven't sold it yet. I am continuing for a bit in Colombia. However, I would like to sell it in the next weeks.

Indeed, I feel my offer getting attacked by saying people are going to get arrested. There's a whole section in this forum about people selling their bikes in South America! Moreover, there are Facebook groups such as Overlanding Buy and Sell as well, where it happens all the time! Many people can finish their trips without any problems, so I would appreciate if people here don't try to frighten each other, especially if it's just for the purpose of pushing their own business.
