Colombia, Antioquia, Nariño -- Son Son DO NOT GO!

HU,

A warning. At the road East of Medellin of Medellin that goes from La Union, Son Son, Nariño there is currently a lot of violence. Not in La Union, but close to Son Son it becomes more volatile. La Union is perfectly fine!

There is a new villain that is keeping these villages in their arm. It is better to avoid these areas. You should go on the main road if you come from Bogota and drive until SunSet (Max).

See!

To be fair, that doesn't mean violence doesn't happen

Agree 100% with tohellnback. I'm at over 15,000KM all over Colombia and never had an issue.

Sure, trouble/violence exists, but usually, you are stopped by the police or military before you get to those areas causing trouble, or those involved are just not interested in you. Plus combine that with some common sense, and your riding should be "violence" free in Colombia.

I agree that you can travel widely and not run into trouble, however... if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time things can get difficult.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
