Disposing of bike in Ushuaia

1999 KLR650 about 20,000 miles
runs very well uses no oil
EM doohickey
KLX needle
16T front 43 rear D.I.D. chain all with about 10,000 miles
Scottoiler
IMS tank
Tusk racks w/Storm iM2600 cases
Progressive spring front

It is a strong running bike with everything working but it looks like hell. I only have about $2k in the bike so it is really not worth shipping back.

Can I sell the bike in Ushuaia? If not, where? Can I give it away? Abandon it? Can I just fly out of Ushuaia and leave it behind?

I have contemplated the same thing for my next O/S trip.
My theory is to go & find someone worthy of a gift & fly away
I did this with my riding gear last trip to Thailand & the smiles were priceless

You can sell it or just give it away to a foreigner using the usual boarder trick no? Maybe flog it to a farmer or a rancher for a few hundred usd? I don't think the us authorities would miss it if she stays down there but maybe you'd have a problem if there is a record you've 'imported' a foreign vehicle and cannot account for it? Are you from Argentina?

Honestly no idea, not sure how organised they are - I doubt it somehow! - is the bike accounted for on your passport? I mean presumably people ride down there and fly off all the time. Also how do they know you're not just going home to 'see your mum' and will be coming back to continue your trip?

I need to do the same thing,(same year, also registered in Texas) I rode from Texas and plan to fly home. Have you found out how to sell it/give it away properly?

Even if the bike is beat, if it's running and ridable it's certainly worth at least $1000 USD. Nearly anyone would buy it at that price. Let buyer worry about making it legal. At that price you owe them nothing, just sign it over to them
and be gone.

If I were a biker on a budget I'd be THRILLED to find a $1000 KLR, set up for travel. You can't even buy a used, crap Chinese 125 for that price!

I would not give it away. Get to a big town, someone will buy it. Try a car dealer ("independent" type guy). God knows lots of them hang out here on
HUBB looking for such "Give-A-Ways'. Better to make the deal to a fellow traveler, IMHO.

Another possibility is to find someone to ride it back for you!!! Then you could have the possibility of having it back in the states for free!

How'd this end? Now I'm in Ushuaia and need to do the same thing. This one is a 2011 registered in Washington and has a ton of addons. I think its worth $2,500 in parts alone.

Or is anybody on here looking for a used KLR? I could find a place to store it if you wanted to buy it for later.

Thermobob, doohickey, subframe bolts, stainless steel oil filter, magnetic oil drain plug, fuseblock, heated grips, electrical socket, custom seat, shift lever, foot pegs, rear spring 7.4 kg, progressive fork springs, 2" handlebar risers, grips, pelican tailbox, happy trail su luggage rack, skid plate, Nerf bars, rear brake cylinder guard, leverguards, used riding pants, used jacket, and a helmet lock. Runs great but burns oil. Front fairings are missing and there's no odometer. Affectionately called "Murtaugh" but he ain't too old for this shit. Special discount if you know the move reference.

You can legally sell a bike in Punta Arenas, Chile because it is a free trade zone. It's a long days ride from where you are. Or you can sell it illegally, but don't expect a good price. Dave
