Now it's Indonesia's turn to tight up entry requirements

I picked up my carnet today from AAA Canberra, Australia and the helpful lady there, Sue, was at pains to point out to me that Indonesia will require from September 1st, all people entering Indonesia with a vehicle, to do the following, along with having the appropriate Carnet DE Passages En Douane

That is to email to the Indonesian motoring club imi@imi.co.id the following information.

1:- Name
2:- Country
3:- CPD number
4:- Port of entry into Indonesia
5:- Itinerary plan in Indonesia
6:- Port of exit from Indonesia

This has apparently only just been instigated in the last few days or week and as such couldn't pass on much more than what I have posted here. She did say to email approximately 1 week prior to entry. I think I shall play it safe and contact at least a few weeks prior.

Cheers

Graeme.

Seems a few Asian countries make it difficult now following somehow the restricted foreign vehicle access the lovely motherland (China) has in place for decades.... RideAsia blokes up the road from Indonesia keep updates about some countries like Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, etc... http://www.rideasia.net

A bit strange that they want this and especially when they cant even keep track on the few vehicles that comes through their country every year.

I travelled more than 3 months in Indonesia on my bike last year, entered at Belawan-Medan and exited via West Timor to East Timor (late september) Carnet stamped and procedures followed as it supposed to be. A couple of months ago I got an email from the automobileorganisation that issues me my Carnet back home in Norway telling me that they had just recived an email from the indonesian customs telling them that I havent exited Indonesia and thus overstayed my Carnets expiring dates and that they wanted the bank deposit of my bikes value transferred to them. I even got the email forwarded so that I could see it for myself.

Luckily the guy handling the Carnets in Norway just laughed at this and actually asked me what to do. So I scanned the exit page with stamps and signatur of the staff in charge and mailed it back to my issuing automobil-organisation. Havent heard anything from them after that so I suppose its ok...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
