R T W Stage 3 - Africa Advice Sought

We are currently in the UK/Europe doing the 2nd leg of our trip after taking in the sights of Alaska, Canada and the US of A (shipped Land Rover from New Jersey to UK).
We will be spending some time in Europe before looking at catching the ferry Venice to Alex in Egypt and then down East coast.
This will be the most challenging part of the trip for us up to the present so after any advice we can get.
We have searched the HUB but haven't found much that's current.
We are flexible about when we leave Europe but we were thinking about shipping to Egypt in Feb/March.
What can we expect weather wise heading south at that time of the year?
Also any ideas on a practical/relatively safe route through Sudan, Ethiopia and into Kenya.
We could start the Africa leg a bit sooner or later if the weather would be more suitable.
We still have a lot to see in Europe but better to start planning for Africa as early as we can. Internet access for us is only possible sometimes so must start getting info now.

Me too

I just finished my initial planning going from Kuwait to Cape Town. you can visit the blog section of the HU site and see what others are doing. I am following Ken at "http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tstories/thomas/".

With regards to the weather, the wet season in central East Africa is from Feb. to April or May depending on the country. However I rather ride in rain ( I am hopping on tarmac) than ride across Sudan in the Summer. So we will be leaving early or mid March, hopping to enter Ethiopia Mid March to early April.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
