How early is too early to get going from Vladivostok next year(2016) and start heading west??

Probably once the temperature is above freezing point.
Depends on your comfort zone.
I arrived in Vladivostok on May 6th 2013 and ist was already nice and "warm" all along incl. Mongolia.
What is your timeframe?

Was pretty much aiming to get going as early as I could next year. Looking at average temps though I'm thinking of pushing it back a bit or starting in the Uk in late March and coming home that way UK to Adelaide South Oz. Looking at 3 months start to finish.

Hello. You can ride in Vladivostok since 15 april till 15-30oct.
But climate in Vladivostok is really warmer than in Siberia especially at september and october. (It is normally +28 in Vladivostok and +3 in Novosibirsk in September) So if you want to get to UK via Siberia and Monlolia the best period since 15may till 1 august.

Mind about a lot of holidays in Russia between 1st and 10 may.
May and June are rainy months in Vladivostok

Hey guys,

I'm shipping the bike from Australia to Vladivostok on the 20th of May next year and riding west all the way into Germany. If anybody want's to join for a bit that would be great.
Visa I'm going with a multiple entry business visa otherwise it is to much of a rush because there is Mongolia on the way which is a must to see, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Planing on arriving in Europe by end of August or September not really in a rush...

I'm shipping early April from Adelaide. Still waiting on the shipping schedule which won't be available for a few weeks yet.

In the process of narrowing down a Visa agent to sort out the LOI for the 12 month multi entry visa. Will get that sorted next year as can't apply further out than 3 months from date of entry in Russia.

My bike prep is pretty much done apart new chain and sprockets before I leave and a final service.

Our bikes will be probably in Vladivostok around the same time. I ship mine mid April because it will take about 37 days from Brisbane to get there. Have you got already information and contacts to clear the bike?
I will use an agent called Yuri Melnikov he is the men there to use. You can clear it yourself but it is a lot of running around and can take days. Friend of mine used him before and he was very happy.
I'm using a Visa agent in Victoria for the Russia visa. I looked up a few and most of them want you to book the flights with them and do travel insurance is well, but I do that myself.
What sort of bike are you on and what tires are you going to run?
3 month time frame that's a big rush from Vladivostok to the UK to be honest...

And time frame wise, yep 3 months isn't huge it'll probably be closer to 4 but I'll be aiming to keep a handle on it as my wife's been amazingly supportive and I'm not going to push my luck

hello bikers..i am planning a vlad-moscow ride in 2017. this starts from april 15th thru 30 days....i will not be camping, but couchsurfing. will the road be ice-free? the internet says that it will be approx 10 degrees centi throughout maximum. hopefully i will be sleeping in the minimum temparature period. there will be a windchill factor too. so i need some advice on april/may riding in Russia from Vlad thru Moscow. Thanx

Hi..I am planning the same in 2017: vlad to moscow from 15th april onwards. Wonder if there will be road slush from ice and snow. Is it cold? Advisable timeframe? Please message number of yuri as I will fly in the bike and me from india to Vladivostok. Thanx!!

Hey Barney and Mario i was planning on starting in May from Japan but the cost of the carnet was high. Also the riding season along Russia and the stans will become winter once i started that way.
I am now in the process of looking for someone to ship my bike to Vladivostok in Late March for early May arrival.

Can i ask who you used for shipping and what they quoted you? I got quoted $1500 to Yokohama Japan and am trying to get shipping costs to Vladivostok at the moment.
For Visa's i found visamaschine which seems to be expensive but very easy, there was an other site Way to Russia Travel Guide - City Guides, Russian Visas, Train Tickets that has good info as well.
The bike (DR650) is almost ready, i just need a larger tank, upgraded suspension and a few electrical mods which will all be done in a month then I'm ready.
