Question Have the Open Street Map mapping ...

bods stopped compiling and updating their maps????

I downloaded 8 European countries back in May2020 and I have today just re-downloaded the same maps, now a year later BUT .... they are all identical in size ergo no updates. Que pasa????

I have also been seeing their message now for almost a year:
"Sorry, due to server problems only country maps are currently available. You may need to refresh the browser cache first" (CTRL-F5). on their download page Free worldwide Garmin maps from OpenStreetMap
Does anyone more in the know throw some light on this please?
thank you

It appears that useful page for downloading the maps hasn't been updated, however thats not really OSM but a download tool run by a helpful chap.

looking at this link OSM itself is still being updated regularly

Yes- that site is no longer being updated.
What a shame
In fact it seems many OSM maps have not been updated since 20-06-2020
Everything passes- even time.

OSM is being constantly updated, as the link above shows. It's used by the majority of navigation apps so I can't see it disappearing.

Just checked my other regular source for garmin OSM downloads at gmaptool and the maps there are still being updated at the normal frequency (usually 6 monthly updates)

So what is the problem ?
It is 9 month ago.

How much will a map change in 9 months?

Do you buy new papermaps every 3-6 months ?

Nowadays things changes rapidly. Streets closes or opens or turns into one way streets, roads also closes and opens. But maybe most important are street adresses, new shops of all kinds including garages, restaurants, hotels, hostels, guesthouses, camping sites, gas stations, grocery stores etc etc etc closes down and new opens or move locations. Thats why most of us has moved to online maps and dont totally trust paper maps.

And especially now and post pandemic I suspect a lot of businesses of all kinds to close down or relocate, new shops will open and so on. So many street adresses will be wrong or non existant of maps that are not updated.

Nobody buy papermaps every 3-6 months because papermaps dont come in new editions every 3-6 months smartboy. Thats why most of us has moved to online maps, at least for navigation...

BTW - OSM havent updated in several months on my devices either....

If its not updated on the gamin website or an app its down to the website owner or app developer not OSM.

A quick look on the OSM website shows the latest update less than a minute ago

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
