sydney to bangkok

OK, so after watching all the ewan and charlie stuff, reading "going postal" and "uneasy rider" im thinking of riding my yamaha tw200 from sydney (where i am based now) upto darwin, over to dili and accross indo then into malaysia and finally to thailand (where i might spend 3-6 months living there)

plan to make the trip in 3 months and 3-6 months based in phuket/bangkok....

so, seems there is info on most of the stuff, such as carnet in indo, malaysia but what about thailand? can i stay there a while with my bike? do i need to register it there?

thinking next may departure so plenty of time to scour these forums!!

any advice, pointers, where to start etc much appreciated.

c

where to start? I think you are just doing right in starting here at the hub. WE are planning a simular trip a bit earlier and starting from Germany mid October, flying to NZ going arround there and then mid January from AUK to Bangkok and "over land" to Dili and from there to darwin with the ship ...

we decidet this direction because of the rain seasons ... check it out here ... there is plenty of information about the monsun etc ...

cheers Sascha

ok, so a few question

1. approx shipping cost darwin-dilli for a tw200....can i leave the bike either at darwin before shipping for 1 week as i need to head to phuket for a week...
2. approx carnet costs getting it in australia for a tw200 (modified cost 14800 new but list price for what now is a 2007 tw200 is around 4k)
3. can i get a 2 month via for indo?
4 can i get a 3 month visa for thailand? if i get a visa for myself does the temporary import doc automatically get the same 3 months?
5. approx shipping costs from bkk to sydney?

i work in web design o can work whilst away assuming i have internet...what is indo/thailand like for getting a dongle type internet connection on a month by month basis...

any answers appreciated

thanks

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
