Pictures from our ride through New Zealand

Hi all,

This is sort of an introduction plus some pictures of our most recent ride through the south island of New Zealand. My wife and I have been avid readers (but lurkers) on HU. The RTW trips posted here have inspired us to take longer motorcycle trips further and further away from home. We're not at the point where we can do our own RTW adventure yet, but we're chipping away at the "W" part, bit by bit.

This winter, we toured the south island of New Zealand by motorcycle and I've finally put our blog entries and pictures online on our website http://www.ridedot.com/nz. Here are some pictures from our trip:

Riding into Akaroa Harbour which is actually the remains of a volcano

Triumph Sprint ST in Kaikoura

North shore of the south island

Marlborough County - home to New Zealand's vineyards

New Zealand's west coast . Their own version of the Pacific Coast Highway

Viewing the Pancake rocks at Punakaiki

One of our Bed and Breakfasts in Greymouth

Hokitika - Home of the Green Jade

Mountains of the interior

Helicopter ride to the top of a glacier at Franz Josef

Lake Wanaka - Exiting the rainforest

A panorama of watefalls on our way to Milford Sound

Boat tour on Milford Sound - more waterfalls

Riding towards Queenstown

Bungy jumping in Queenstown

Moeraki Boulders

Otago Peninsula

Elephant Rocks (where they filmed The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

Encountering sheep on the road on the way to Mount Cook

Clicking on each picture will take you that day's blog entry on our website. Hope you enjoyed the photos, we certainly enjoyed taking them! Look forward to reading the rest of your stories!

Just got back from NZ myself (third visit for me) - thank you for keeping my memories alive.

I agree, your website has a wonderful layout and is a real credit to you.

Thanks for sharing

Right there with you

Great pics. I rode through many of these same areas solo back in September. My sister lives in Christchurch and I rented a KLR650 for 4 days to ride the South Island. New Zealand is easily one of the most beautiful 'westernized' countries to ride through. Can't wait to go back.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
