Hi Keith, you found me out my real name is Chris! but like many others I choose to use a Handle on forums and blogging, Steve Canyon was a comic strip character in the 1940's (By Milton Caniff), and also the name given to the Ravens project in the secret war in Laos nothing more sinister than that.
I'll be in Laos for 6 months so drop me a line and we can hook up.....I have all the GPS tracks if you want, if not contact Laos GPS Map - Driven by Adventure - Highly detailed GPS Maps of Laos this guy has mapped the area for the last 11 years and has a GPS map that has more detail than any other, his name is Don and he's a helpful chap..

I’ve already downloaded the appropriate Thai/Laos/Cambodian tiles from OpenStreetMap. Thanks for the offer of tracks; I’ll certainly look into Don’s GPS maps too.

Gday, sorruy to have missed you
I have been at the Dokchampa Hotel, Luang Namtha for over a week now waiting for a spare part to arrive for my Vstrom, would have been great to catch up
I am in Chiang Rai tonight, got my part and will be heading to Luang Prbang in a few days.
I am a bit nervous about that section of road, I have heard it is crap, but yours is more up todate, do you reckon a big heavy dual sport will handle it OK
Cheers

Shame we missed each other TS, you will be fine on that section of road I would rather have been on a more powerful bike, just take your time and give the trucks and buses right of way, there is some great views and hundred of little villages to pass through. I made head a bit farther south in the next few days, where are you headed?. Would love to meet up...

Hi again
I just installed my part, the bike starts, but I am only 99% confident
I will do a day ride for a test up to the border today, then start my way down tomorrow(assuming the bike passes the test). I will probably be in Luang Probang for the weekend, then head south Monday to VV, taking a detour to Phonsevan, then back up and head south to Vientiene
Or something like that

Hi, the bike did well, started every time on the test ride, so that part is fixed, but it is stalling a bit, but that is not a real big issue, it may be bad fuel and the tank is empty, so it may go away when I fill up
I will be going to Nuang Prabang over the weekend, then south to VV, but a detour to Phonasavan is probably going to happen, then south to VT
It will take me another week to get there by the sounds of it and that is not set in stone
You are ahead by a few days, so we shall see what happens, ride safe
Cheers

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
