2000 Toyota Hilux - 266,000km - Overland Ready - R135,000 (South Africa)

After an amazing 9 months traveling around southern and eastern Africa, it’s time for us to say farewell to Wily, our beloved 2.7-liter, manual, chain-driven, petrol, overland-ready Toyota Hilux. Wily is registered in South Africa and is available now in Cape Town area.

During our trip, we didn’t hesitate to replace or repair any parts that need fixing. Our goal was to keep Wily in good health to avoid having trouble in remote areas (those off-the-beaten paths where we all like to go). This strategy paid off and we never broke down or were stranded on the side of the road. And we believe this sturdy bakkie is ready for another African adventure...with you!

We’ve done the following notable mechanical work, among other extra minor bits and regular maintenance (i.e, oil changes and wheel alignments), during our trip. *Repair records provided on request.

Repairs (2019)
- New R rear axle side shaft kit, R/l rear bearings & seals (Mar)
- Alternator Reconditioning (Mar)
- New deep cycle battery (Mar)
- Rear brakes - new L/R wheel cylinders, brake drums & brake shoes (May)
- New Rear differential housing, U bolts, U joints, & bearings (May)
- Repair prop shaft (May)
- 2 New AT tires (Jun)
- Repair starter (Jul)
- New front brake pads (Aug)
- New seals (i.e., engine, front & rear diff, rear axle), rear bearings, steering damper (Sept)
- New front shocks, new gear lever kit (Sept)
- Steering system repair (new bow joints, steering box kit) (Oct)
- New front wheel bearings (Oct)
- New steering arm (Oct)
- New primary battery (Oct)
- New rear brake cylinder and rear brake shoes (Nov)
- New steering pump (Nov)
- New clutch & gearbox repairs (Dec)

This is an overland ready, fully kitted out vehicle with camping gear, spare parts, and modifications to make your future adventure successful. *Full equipment list available on request.
- Cold air conditioning
- Power steering, power windows/locks, keyless remote entry
- Luna Dual battery system & deep cycle battery
- Double roof-rack & canopy
- Hannibal 2-person roof top tent with new (May 2019) PVC, fully zipped cover & rainfly

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
