Is it a motorbike or a pushbike?

How about this for touring. Just need to figure out the charger so you and the bike can soak up the Rays before moving on...

The maximum electric power that is legal to use on a bicycle is 250 watts ... in Australia and I believe the UK. So it is not legally a bicycle in those places, possibly legal in northern America ... but I think it may not be legal on public roads there either!

As it has no stop light it cannot be registered (never mind speedo, indicators, tested brakes) so it cannot be a legal motorcycle.

Shipping it by air may be hard - they are concerned about batteries now .. particularly large ones that may catch fire.

It has 7 speeds in the hub ... I have 3 bicycles - one with 22 speeds, 24 on the next and 27 for another. All of these have a greater range (from- bottom to top) than the 7 hub gears... meaning you probably will be walking up hill, and free wheeling down hill.

43kg of gear ... think one of mine is rated at 40kg.

It is a toy ... an interesting toy. But not one that is usable around the public world.

New to Horizons Unlimited?

Horizons Unlimited was founded in 1997 by Grant and Susan Johnson following their journey around the world on a BMW R80G/S.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
