CO-Travellers for China Oct 2017

Hello, we are a family with 4 children planning on crossing China from Mongolia to Lao starting on October to mid november 2017. To share the cost of travelling with a Chinese guide would somebody be interested in joining us? We already gathered 2 other couples on another forum, but still loocking for people. We haven't contacted an agency yet and will discuss together the exact itinerary.

Funnily enough, I had come on this forum looking for someone doing exactly that! My partner Roger and I would be very interested indeed.

We are a couple from the UK (unfortunately!) who are on an around the World trip on 2 motorcycles. We are going to be traversing Mongolia in 2017 and are looking at finishing this leg of our trip on 1st October, although we are flexible on this. I would very much prefer travelling from Mongolia through China to Laos than going up into Russia and flying to SE Asia via Vladivostok, but I thought the cost of the guide etc. would be prohibitive. If we could share the cost then that would be amazing!

Do you know how long you want to spend in China?

Hi Joanna,

I was reading your questions about co-travelling through China maybe we are interested.
We are a dutch couple and leave Holland in april the first 2017, to travel on our two motorbikes parts of the silk route. We want to go to China from Mongolia around september/October, but we are still not sure which country is coming after China. If it's going to be Laos, then we are thinking riding through China in October in 30 days. We are in doubt because of the new regulations in Thailand and it's hard to say if it's still possible to go to Thailand without a guide in 2017.

So our other options is Mongolie-China-Pakistan, But still not sure...

We have already contact with Chinaoverland they did some suggestions about the trip. We will keep you in mind, and if we made a decisions we let you know!

I'm a motorbike driver from Switzerland and have similar travel plans like you. I want to start my trip in April and orginally planned to cross China from Mongolia to Nepal around Sep 17, but because the border to Nepal is still closed, I decided to cross to Laos.
Now I read about to problems to enter Thailand and I'm not really sure where to go after Laos, because Myanmar seems even more complicated to cross. I'm also interested to form a group but would prefer to cross China in Sep 17. I found an tour operater where the guide is also travelling by motorbike which I thought could be interesting. But I'm also open to join another group and even to change the destination country. Therefore I would be glad if you could let me know if you found a good solution.

We have recently come through China from Kyrghyzstan and into Laos we are now wondering how we can get out of Laos. The Thai government have imposed new regulations on overland travellers which seem to be still developing, and one of the couples we travelled with have just been refused a permit. There is a long thread about this on the Hubb. A post has also been posted here saying the border into Laos is refusing to let foreign registered vehicles through. The Vietnamese will only allow you in for 2 weeks in a vehicle and you need an escort. We are wondering if we will have to go back into China with a guide to get out of Laos. Before you make arrangements to come to Laos please monitor this on the Hubb.

Thailand will let you through if you get your paperwork done and get the neccesary permits. I think the only travellers who really had problems was the one travelling with huge motorhomes - over 3500 kgs. But I think in the end they were let through as well.

Contact one of the agents that provides help with the permits and ask hin for advice if youre travelling with a motorhome bigger than 3500 kg.

Hi Daniel,

it's interesting that you found a guide on a motorbike, that will make things easy! How more we think and read about Pakistan how more we want to go there, so it's fine with us to form a group, with company did you find to travel through China?
Chinaoverland says it's only possible to leave China to Laos or Pakistan, the roads to Nepal and India are still closed because of heavy rainfall and landslides.
