HU Friendly Anchorage Accommodation?

We're finally almost there! Bike freight is booked and flights are payed for.
We arrive in Anchorage on the 15th of June and hope to spend 2-3 days in town finalising kit / faffing with bikes etc.

Would love to stay with an HU friendly local / recommended B&B etc if anyone knows of an option?

We're a couple (riding separate bikes) so ideally looking for secure parking / garage space and a room to call our own for a couple of nights relatively close to the airport.

very happy to pay for accom but would rather avoid mainstream hotels.

Please share any links or feel free to message privately if you may have space.

And finally - I have searched for this but found no info on the forum... I cant believe I'm the first to ask so if I have missed a thread please dont shout at me - just drop me a link and I'll be on my way

Many thanks, Braddan & Shona.

There used to be a friendly hostel downtown called "The Bent Prop", but it seems to have gone out of business during the pandemic.

My guess is that you will not have any problem finding bike-friendly accommodation in Anchorage. Alaska is full of pretty adventurous and atypical people, it's pretty unlikely that anyone would object to you spending a few days getting your bikes organized for your trip.

Be aware, though, that Anchorage can be a bit of a rough town. It's a problem that is common in all remote areas - the biggest town in a remote area tends to be where people who are down on their luck eventually wind up. So pay attention to the security of both yourself and your belongings.

It would be difficult to have a thread for every desirable destination, so there are HUBB Communities - send a message, and it will go out to everyone who marked themselves as a part of that community. Anchorage is its own Community entry, so that's probably a good place to start.

Thanks for the feedback Michael and yes - duly noted re the security element. Will be proceeding with appropriate caution...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
