Timing for TAT west to east

I'm currently in Vladivostok, waiting for my bike, having ridden from the UK to Magadan, and was hoping ride back across the US TAT.

What's the latest I could do this and still enjoy it? I don't mind near-freezing temperatures, but I don't want to ride the whole thing in gloomy conditions, mud and rain.

I reckon the soonest I could be in Oregon is around October 8th - but I fear this may be too late to start? How long should I allow? I like to do longer days than a lot of people, but don't want it to be a race.

It's likely I would air-freight to Vancouver, and I'm riding an 1190 R.

Hi IanC
I can't help you with your US problems but I wish you all the best in your trip.
We met in Kirgistan on the way from Kazarman to Jalalabad.

I'm sorry I just saw this post. Here's a link to help.

National Snow Analyses - NOHRSC - The ultimate source for snow information

The Snow Depth map is the main one of interest other than general weather. It's going to be cold. Cinnamon Pass was 7C way back on the 4th of July. Locals love this time of year, just keep your eyes open and best of luck!!

Let us know how things are going.

Thanks but I'm back home in the UK now, it didn't work out this year for a number of reasons, including that my bike's only just now reached Vladivostok. If work permits, I may have a go next year.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
