From Roma to Dakar with my 1988 Teneré 600

Ciao! just came back from a 6000 km trip through Western Africa
Italy - Spain - Marocco - Mauritania - Senegal
A wonderful trip with no problem at all at border. We ride for many km in Mauritania and Senegal along the sea shore on low tide ..a wonderful experience ..a deep sense of freedom.
We entered in Morocco from Nador border. Insurance very expensive 80€ for 10 days. We travel along the pistes of Plateau du Rekkam till Merzouga
There is a check point of Polisario between Morocco and Mauritania border in Guerguerat, but no problem at all. They just don't want to see any sticker or flag regarding Morocco on your bike. We had...and they took them off!
Biometric visa directly at border in Mauritania - 55€
No visa or Carnet de Passage required in Senegal.
We used the Djama border...very calm and friendly people. Absolutely to avoid Rosso!!!
in Djama there is a joung "boss" that for 10 € he makes all the papers you need to exit Mauritania and enter Senegal:
Insurance - Passport registration - Passavant for you permission of circulation in Senegal.
They give you a "PASSAVANT" at the cost of 5 or 10 € - 2 or 5 day permission extendable for other 15 days for free in Dakar.
Total cost 40€ and 2 hr..
We travelled in remote village inside Senegal, People very smiling and friendly everywhere.
Back to Italy by plane and motorcycle by ship cargo arranged wih a very reliable and serious agency in Dakar: Donomassara
2000€ for an exclusive container 20', all fret included.
Marvellous experience!!!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
