Tunisia-Libya-Egypt

Hi Guys,

Anyone got any up to date info on crossing from Tunisia-Libya-Egypt. I'm planning on riding from NordKapp to Capetown down the east coast leaving europe Aug/Sept. The last blog I come across was the 'Chasing Horizons' site. Anyone know of any more up to date info.

thanks in advance

About the only way to Africa is Athens to Haifa , through Jordan to taba then ferry to Hurghada in Egypt.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. That doesn't sound like good news to me. I really want to go through Libya so might have to postpone the trip for a while. I have come across the following blog from a slovakian woman who has travelled through last April.

motoGIRLtrip | Katarína Vrábelová

I have emailed her to see how her experience went. I'll let ye know when I get a reply.

Hi Atlas,

Great trip that you are planning, just one word of clarification: The ferry from Aqaba goes to Nuweiba, not to Taba. And the ferry from Sharm el Sheikh to Hurghada does not exist anymore! You have to go around the Sinai peninsula and through the Suez Canal tunnel.

Take care and safe travels,
Achim

It should also be possible to take the road in Israel from Haifa, Tel Aviv or Ashdod to the short border line of the red sea. Then pass over to Taba, then Sinai, Suez and Kairo. It's not necessary to pass the border from Israel to Jordan and then avoiding Israel by taking the ferry from Aqaba to Nuweiba.
In 2010 I took this route twice without any problem.
In December we want to take this route again - inshalla.

Hi Stefan,

Of course you are right about the possibility to go straight down to the Elat - Taba border.

But apart from Jordan being a wonderful country to visit for overlanders - not to be missed! - the detour through Jordan gives one precious advantage for the continuation: There will be no Egyptian entry stamp from Taba! If the Sudanese are picky than this can cause a lot of trouble! They might not be but who knows. If you have the chance to change your passport on the way, then the Jordanian exit in Aqaba and the Egyptian entry stamp in Nuweiba are much better.

Greetings,
Achim
