I think you will find moderate routes in the Atlas far less remote than you imagine. Such tracks connect villages and are used by ancient transit vans and guys on mopeds or mules.
As back up you will also find the mobile phone signal much more widespread than parts of the UK, for example. A Maroc Telecom SIM costs from €2 (including that amount in credit). Get the guy in the shop to set it up for you and find out what the number is - not always obvious.
Depending on where you go April is also a busy time for tourists (compared to the cooler seasons I visit in) so you will encounter other riders.
The most stressful moment for a first timer is dealing with the immigration and heading out, but Nador (now with insurance sold in the port again) is relaxed and easy (compared to adjacent Melilla, from what I hear).
Fill up and have your first night's lodgings secured – after that it gets easier and easier.
