Happy 25th birthday tomorrow to the Land Rover Discovery

Happy 25th birthday tomorrow to the Land Rover Discovery.

In celebration Land Rover has produced a film using footage shot by Disco owners.

Our little contribution is the "7 people and a dog" wedding party footage with me dressed most unusually in a morning suit.

For the preview and the full film, check out 25 Years of Discovery - Land Rover

And here's the original footage...

Father of the bride or just the chauffeur?

Just to celebrate in an appropriate way I shall spend the day taking mine to pieces ... again.

FoB thanks! Can't see a viable business hiring a Disco for weddings.

The church was down an unmade road.

Sorry Tim, it was meant much more tongue in cheek than it reads. I should have chucked some smilies in.

Nice one Tim,

Its easy for people to overlook the Discovery - the Defender is the 'definitive' Land Rover icon, but the Disco is far more refined for long journeys and so much more comfortable, it is also extremely practical. We've had the 7 seats crammed full of people (about 10 ) or the back filled up to the roof with fire wood and all sorts of other crap. If driven well, its nearly as capable as a Defender - its 100 inch wheelbase is about perfect, less pitching on the motorway, it just loses a bit on the departure angle and weight in the rough stuff compared to a D90.

We used our Discovery as a wedding car too

the discovery saved landrover.

In Australia for example by the mid 1980s their market share dropped to less than 1% until the Discovery managed to get it back up to around 17%. This then laid the path for the modern rangerover which is a huge seller for landrover worldwide (the original range rover hadn't really made such an impact) .

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
