USA California 2016 Meeting, Sep 22-25

Mark your calendar for the premier overland adventure travel event - HU California 2016! Online registration is open now!

We're back to a great location - the Mariposa fairgrounds just outside of Yosemite National Park that boasts gorgeous rides from every direction, like the famed Tioga Pass.

Lots of camping space, several large presentation rooms, stadium space for demos, a garden for socializing and late night HU fun, and a very friendly town!

Flip Morton and Nicole Espinosa are the local hosts for this event, ably supported by Craig Haggart and Bill Miner.

I'm excited to return to HU this year. Can't believe looking back how many friends and adventures have been spawned by an HU event in the past.

We'll be talking about "How to Attract and Retain Ride Sponsorship" as well as a cooking demo I'm doing ALL BY MYSELF! (okay I might have some help from Michelle)

Any burning questions about being a sponsored rider you'd like me to address? Yes, I know that adventure travel is its own reward and it's better if you can simply enjoy the experience of travel without it becoming some kind of job or you morphing into a "social media commodity." But for those who just like using social media to share and express themselves and and interested in sharing their experiences with various gear companies then this will be for you.

I'll have some pretty cool stats and give you a sneak peek under the hood at who the really big dogs of ADV travel are and what it is they're doing so well that gets them noticed.

Learn how to create a proposal as well as a contract, how to compose your photos/video; how best to use each social media channel, etc...

Question

Hi guys,

Sorry I'm new. I want to go to the HU meeting in Yosemite this year, but I can't camp. Is that allowed?

I believe you can attend the event and just stay in a motel and come and go as you please and eat meals in town if you don't want to eat at the event. You can pay and register for the event when you get to the fair grounds. Someone please correct me if this isn't right, rj

I'll be coming over from the UK this year - with two presentations!

The first will be a slide show and Q&A about my Trans-Am 500 trip across the US and back again via the whole of the new Trans-America Trail (2015 revisions) last summer on the Rally Raid CB500X Adventure...

"American Idyll - scratching a seven year itch..."

The second will be a series of hints and tips for packing light for an indefinite period on the road or trail...

"Double or Nothing - living out of 39 litres..."

Hope to see you there!

Jenny, will there be a CB500X RR available for demo at the California HUBB meeting? If not, what would be my best bet if I'm interested in demoing one? I live in northern California and the CB500X RR is my current fixation

Hi einnocent - it is certainly Harold (of Giant Loop)'s intention to be at the show too - with their CB500X Adventure demo bike (the very same I used for the Trans-Am 500 ride last summer, which is the first of my two presentations)... so there is every chance you could try it there, or at least arrange with him to visit Giant Loop in Bend OR at a mutually convenient time.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
