Insurance in Moldova

Our proposed route will take us to the Ukraine via Moldova. Looking at my insurance, it covers countries in the EU, + a couple of others but Moldova isn't listed.

Is insurance available at the border and if so can a policy be bought which also covers Ukraine (I bought one when I went to Belarus that covered Ukraine and Belarus)?

Any ideas on cost for a 4x4?

We will only be in Moldova for one day so don't want to pay stacks for insurance I won't need, but equally don't particulaly want to drive without it (likely to spend more than the insurance on bribes when you get stopped and find you don't have it!!)

i'm sure someone with more recent experience will chime in at some point....but just in case, 10 years ago I paid something like 10 or 15 Euros at the border for whatever the shortest duration available was. Cheapest insurance in Europe!

I was on a motorcycle, and the policy did not cover the Ukraine.

Hope that's helpful.

I know it's old post and inquiry, but someone could find this useful.

Government price list for third party liability says it will cost around 3 eur for car up to 8 seats:

I'm not sure thats correct. The way I read that, the top line 'Autoturisme cu până la 9 locuri' is for cars, in which case it is 64 euros for 15 days

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
