Upgrade Handlebars?

Hi all,

Everytime I go to a bike shop I'm always impressed by the shiney renthal handlebars - should I be? Any reason to drop 100 dollars and a decent pair of Renthals for my XR250? Do they just save weight or what?

Well, I only changed my bars to Renthal bars because I went for a different bend that stock bars had, both times I needed higher bars. And I can say for both 7/8" and 1 1/8 inch bars that they are quality stuff. They have survived a lot of get off's even on road.

For 7/8" I went with Enduro High bars on my KLE, and on my LC4 I use a RC High bars, both were the highest bars I could find in theri product range.

I just yesterday fitted some new handlebars and risers to my XR650 in order to gain some height and thus a more comfortable riding position while standing.
They are not Renthals, but a similar aftermarket type purchased in USA.
I think they are Fly Aero bars.

The most apparent difference to the stock steel bars is reduced vibration through the grips
They are also much stronger and won't crumple like the stock steel bars in event of a spill.

I replaced stock steel bars on my DR650 for similar reasons: 1. to gain a bit of height 2. improve rider comfort. ... and YES, it's true that: 3. Alu bars tend to transmit less vibration ... = less fatigue.

I went with Pro Taper Fat bars (1" 1/8") ... mine are "CR High". I needed an adaptor to go from standard 7/8" to Fat bar. My adaptor was also a Riser.

Not too high, just an inch or so UP, no need to extend cables or wiring. I find the bend is better too ... the Pro Taper CR High Bend keep my wrist FLAT, with less bend in them (no carpal tunnel) over 60K miles on my set up. Seems to work.

Pro Taper were the first to make Fat bars. Renthal are just as good. You will never bend an ALU bar ... which is good and bad. (think about it)

I fit the pro taper fat bars as well, on a '12 dl650, being 6'3 and lanky, I went with raptor bend. It's the highest without going to atv bars. Wonderfully improved my riding position and comfort on longer trips. Careful fitting your grips though, the knurling on the clutch side can be a bear to work with.
