Need Storage Ideas in Tapachula MX for Spring

Hi folks.

Well the first phase of our multi year plan went off very well (riding our bikes from Prince George, BC to Puerto Vallarta, 14 days and storing them until we return spring 2017). It was a 15/10.

Our bikes are safely stored and our TVIPs expire April 05, so we are heading back the beginning of March for another ~2 week ride around working our way south to Tapachula to store them again until we can return.

As such, we need suggestions on where to store our bikes. I know there is a Yamaha and Honda dealer there, but with zero Spanish skills, I don't know how best to contact them (have Google translate a message for me but I could not find an email address for them on google).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Not sure if you got my PM. Tapachula online yellow pages list storage businesses. Self-storage units are becoming more common in Mexico.

Hi there M+M, thanks so much for the follow up. Funny we would "meet" like this again.

Yes I got the thanks so much, I pass that intel onto my riding buddy who has an employee that speaks fluent Spanish and has contacted a couple of bike store the Yami is out of business and the Honda fellow just said there are lots there, just come to town and find one. So hope fully she will call a few folks in the yellow pages.

I like to have things figures out in advance if possible but we'll figure something out.

So then I saw that HU has these area communities so I thought I would give it a try, and there you were :0)

If you happen to change your routing, there are at least wo secure storage facilities here in Veracruz.

Hi there.

The Yami shop is out of business and the Honda shop was not that helpful (turns out they were a distributor not a place that sells to the riders), they just said to come down and find a spot when we get there as there are lots. Well we'd rather secure something in advance than leave it to the end if the trip, given our weak Spanish skillz.

Thanks for the kind Veracruz off, but we need to cancel our TViPs before storing the bikes to get iff the TVIP clock as we wont be back within the next 180 days (probably more like 270 days), and the Banjercito is not that far from Tapachula, thus the interest in storing them there.

KR , you do realize your question is directed at a two-year-old post ?

No matter , do a google search for MINI BODEGAS in Tapachula
These are storage facilities , just like in the US, where you can rent various sized units for however long you need .e.g these at
Calle 15 Pte. H-9, Insurgentes, 30750 Tapachula de Córdova y Ordoñez, Chis., Mexico

If you are going to leave the bike there in Mexico for a period longer than your TVIP then first take the trouble to Cancel that TVIP and get your deposit money refund . Do this at the highway side Customs terminal at Huixtla which will leave you free to ride back into Tapachula in the border zone .
If yo do not cancel and let the TVIP expire while you are gone then you lose your deposit and need to contact BANJERCITO to arrange a temporary 5-day permit to remove the bike from Mexico when you return . Then go into Guatemala and you are okay to turn around and re-enter Mexico and get a new TVIP

Hi Everyone.

I typed a fully detailed reply but it was curly off for some reason, so it looks like I didn't know why I received the follow up post.

When I noticed that I re-wrote my post but it got lost again so show.

We found a fellow in Comitan via ADV who looked after our bikes, very cool.

He introduced us to his rider buddy in San Cristobal de la Casas who has since looked after our bikes for the last 2 years.

They've been so helpful to us.

We cancel our tvip's at La Mesalla and turn around and ride north, we don't actually go into Guatemala first.

We rode for a week in Guatemala this past November, it was amazing!

Next year the plan is to spend a week in Honduras.

I want to return the favour so I've planned a two week ADV ride around BC this summer (before the summer smoke arrives).

Sorry to reawaken this very old thread – two friends and I are looking for self-storage options in Tapachula or the surrounding area. If anyone knows of anything specific, we're struggling to find options online, and don't want to be left hanging when we get there.

We tried looking up mini bodegas per Sjoerd Bakker's suggestion above, but didn't find a whole lot. If anyone knows of specific facilities where we could store bikes in that area, we would be very thankful for any information about them!
