Recommendations and opinions wanted. 2 months realistic itinerary in Mexico, starting

Hello everyone ! Finally, my best friens tagged into a motorcycle ADV with me !

We are now in Northern Guatemala with our two DR ! Big sister from 1991 (DR650) with the little youngster (DR200) from 2018. These two are heading to Mexico and begging for adventure.




We are crossing the border in a couple of days and we have two months for Mexico. We are eager to hear from people here recommendations of routes, hidden or not, or past threads mentionning epic roads. I have used the search function but with no great success, if you have a great past epic ride thread related to Mexico to drop here please do so !



So to give a broad idea, we would go to Chiapas and Oaxaca and then Mexico city area. My interrogation is whether it is worth it to go to Yucatán or maybe go further North. To judge whether it is worth it or not for us, your opinion and suggestions matters !

But yeah to give a broad idea, we have two months from today and that includes 7 days in Mexico city to sell the bikes.
And my friend works remote 3 days a week on his laptop so there's that.

Beginning your Mexico visit in early April you are in prime time for touring Mexico , before the "wet " season begins in earnest . In Many locations it will be sunny and warmer than in July . I see your little map starts off at the El Ceibo border so that makes me presume that you have visited all the tourist sites in Guatemala in the Peten already, namely TIKAL . Of course in Chiapas you will visit Palenque , and Comalcalco in Tabasco ,and Teotihuacan and other fanatsic sites in central Mexico and of course a lot of delectable scenery ,too many spots to mention here .


. .The YUCATAN , if you have never been there deserves serious consideration ,if only because of the many excellent MAYAN historical sites - UXMAL ,CHICHEN ITZA, EDZNA ,to name a few and cenotes like DZITNUP , and some historic cities like Izamal,Valladolid , Campeche etc etc . Do not be put off the Yucatan because it does not have snow capped volcanos , there is plenty to entertain you while riding small back roads .
Two Months can be enough time for a meandering ride up to Mazatlan , the Mex 40 LIBRE Espinazo inland to Durango and north into the Copper Canyon Country which is now in the IDEAL season of spring . . Pick any highway or gravel road that connects the coast to an interior place in Mexico and you will have great riding guaranteed .

A note of caution on the El Ceibo crossing , Open daily until 6pm and all border doc's available ,but unless you got the TVIP on-line avoid it on Mondays because the BANJERCITO officer is always off for that day . And remember that at EL CEIBO all Mexican border payments for FMM and tourist card are done in CASH -only . This means that you should have enough Pesos and US DOLLARS on you to cover the FMM (tourist card) and TVIP as well as the two security deposits in US DOLLAR-ONLY] payment of 200 USD for the old bike and 400USD for the newest bike . The TVIP Security deposit money is a REFUNDABLE security bond and you would get it back if you were close the TVIP officially at Banjercito before you exit Mexico .

I discovered that your bikes are plated in Costa Rica and Guatemala

The plan to sell the bikes in Mexico City raises a serious problem . If they are not MEXICAN plated it means that they are indeed being IMPORTED to Mexico . Therefore somebody is going to have to pay the Mexican import tax.
Your security deposits will be forfeited and maybe additional tax is added.
To get the security bond fully refunded you must go to the northern border and cancel the TVIP and the bikes must be removed from MEXICO to the USA , or sold to a Mexican willing to buy them for parts or will use them only in the border vicinity or off road or in some back country area where no police care about valid plates .
It is not possible to get the TVIP cancelations and deposit refund in Mexico DF , the bikes are still in Mexico .
This leaves you with the dilemma of having unsellable bikes for the value you might have expected to retrieve from their sale. If you do find buyers willing to take the bikes it will be THEY who have to pay the import taxes and so they will insist on a very low price to make up for the tax bite and the bother of getting the documentation sorted .
