How long do you need to store your bikes?
Are you in need of long or short term storage? If you plan to return to Panama before the TVIP permit runs out, then storage is less complicated and should be easy to find. I recommend reaching out to the HOrizons Unlimited Panama Community list for advice. Go to this page and select Panama, then complete the form. If the person or persons that signed up are watching their email, then chance are you'll get a reply and hopefully useful advice. If you need to store your bike longer than the TVIP permit, then you have options, but they are more complicated. In between countries there are sometimes businesses that store vehicles. Because they are in the no ma's land between countries there is no time limit to storing the bike, because the vehicle is not in either country. Or that may be my child like understanding and the business is really a bonded warehouse operating very near the border. Either way, the services will store your bike, in the open air or perhaps under cover. While riding through Central America I sometimes saw parking lots of very dusty cars very near borders. I always assumed the cars were impounded, but later believed they are stored.
Hoping someone will jump in here and provide the details of storage near the Costa Rica / Panama border, positive or not.
There are usually bonded warehouse services near international airports. If you find the right warehouse, you can store the bikes beyond the TVIP permit date at a reasonable rate. I understand that the insurance will run out, but the TVIP "clock" is suspended.
I sent a message to some riders currently in Colombia who mentioned knowing of a storage facility in Panama. They may contact you directly, but last I heard they were storing their bikes and headed into the mountains of Colombia, so they might not read this in time...
