Keith Hartley Riddiough
/Users/vicreuter/Desktop/Puerto Angel-Vallarta.jpg
Harry Devert disappeared six month ago about half-way between Puerto Angel and Puerto Vallarta. ( Union ) after coming from the monarch butterfly sanctuary (Ocampo)
The state border between Michoacán and Guerrero is often patrolled by citizen militias called autodefensas, often resulting in violent confrontations with local drug gangs, such as the Knights Templar.
The cartel is involved in a broad range of criminal operations, including kidnapping and extortion. And the circumstances of Devert's disappearance are still cloudy.
Might be a good idea to avoid the Michoacan area for a while.
I sincerely hope Keith is just having a good time on a beach somewhere!

Translate the info to Spanish to make it more useful.
Get the embassy to contact the clinics and hospitals along that stretch of the Pacific coast, including rural and Red Cross clinics.
Michoacan is only dangerous if you are riding through rural territory these days. Oaxaca has been very quiet, lately.
If he has had a medical emergency there will be some record.
If he has been using Sjoerd's guide to budget traveling, check the hotels in the guide for those parts.
Honda has never sold or supported that model of bike in Mexico. Parts would need to be ordered in case of a breakdown.
Having the info only in English is limiting to some degree. Get it in Spanish and get it up on the Mex bike forums and get it to the Mex bike magazines like 400 and Motociclismo Mexico, you can contact the editors directly.

The moral of the story is: Connie and Keith should have communicated more prior to the trip as to how frequently Connie needs contacting! And Keith needs to remember to stick to said time frame...
Keith was clearly too busy having fun to get in touch with home. Easily done. I've done it myself.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
