Honduras and El Salvador

Hi everyone,

Been having a pretty epic ride south from Colorado south. We have been on the road now for 4.5 months completing Mexico, Belize, and now currently Guatemala. I am looking at a map and trying to figure out what to do for Honduras and El Salvador. The coast of El Salvador looks incredible, but I also kind of wanted to head over to the Bay Islands in Honduras to do some diving.

It is kind of tricky as the border crossing from El Salvador to Honduras look like they are either early on in the country or at the end.

Has anyone had an recent experience with doing both and zigzagging? Or simply choosing one or the other?

Thanks,
Justin

El Salvador and honduras

I have done this trip many times from Vail,CO to Nicaragua. One suggestion when you enter El Salvador is to take the coast highway called Carretera 2! It has the best twisties as well as great ocean views at times. It also has 7 tunnels carved into the mountains. The highway is a blast to ride. The Honduras border is a PITA. Best of luck.

Awesome! Thanks for the input. Probably do it within the 2-4 weeks.

Fyi crossed into El Salvador yesterday from Guatemala at Valle Nuevo/Las Chinamas. It was easy but slow. From there we headed towards Santa Ana.

So far all good. I'll report back when we do head up to Honduras.

Cheers,
Justin

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
