Broken down in Arequipa. Peru, G650GS, Overheating.

Have a G650GS single which started overheating yesterday in traffic, anyone know a good mechanic? The fan is not turning on, it has a new dual sensor switch installed as it did this once in Nicaragua, but has been going OK since.

Thanks Bertrand, it is definitely the fan, had already worked that out. Visited Alvaro at Alda Motors he spoke perfect english and was most helpful in looking for a solution. No replacement fans readily available in Peru as most bikes are air cooled. He has put me onto a fellow called Carlos Caipio, @ calle Jose Golves 222, who runs bike tours and has lots of big european bikes. He has an electrician who may be able to re wind the motor in the fan and solve the problem, otherwise it is order a replacement from USA or England.
Will know tomorrow

Any fan that will run on 12volts and fits in the space will do. Just connect a manual switch. Also consider running a fan from a PC/computer, assuming you can get it to work on 12v and to suck air through the radiator.

Good luck

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
