South Island Adventure,Burt Munro & Back
2009 Burt Munro Challenge is 27-29 November. The plan is to build a bike, (some wheels in motion...) ride it to the event (starting in Wellington Friday 20th) via a somewhat adventuresome route, have a ride in the event (I'm thinking the beach race...) and head back to the little smoke for work on Monday, December 7. Anyone else game?

The bike I'm building will be a medium/large capacity adventure bike so maybe one of your other bikes might be more suitable.

Yes, I've seen the movie and loved it.
Was just wondering if there are speed races ect.
Sound like a good event to attend.

I'll be there...
Travelling from Auck to Wgtn....across the ditch and then on to Invercargill. Accomodation all booked and all I need to do is pack and leave.
Would love to meet up with people on the way and group ride down.
Still some way to go and a little organising
Cheers

Hell yeah, it's an orgy of 2 wheeled motorsport; beach racing, street racing, speedway & road circuit racing. Gotta get down for it sometime, November always turns out to be a busy month for me, maybe next year.
Cheers

Burt was the kiwi of "The Worlds Fastest Indian" fame, played by Sir Anthony Hopkins on the big screen a couple or three years ago now. A great movie if you haven't seen it with something in it for everyone (not just motorcyclists) Anyway, Burt's hometown of Invercargil do an annual event in the great man's honour that starts with beach races and includes track racing, speedway, street races, a toy run and motorcycle rally. If you can make it to New Zealand it would make sense to get the timing right for this. See thorstenc link for more info

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
