There are more questions than answers

Right where to start.
I live in the UK but I do own a motorcycle that resides in New Zealand
I would like to tour Australia via motorcycle nd was wondering if it is feasible to ship my NZ bike to Australia for a few months ride around then sell it. Or ship it back to NZ
Thanks Martin

Shipping to/from OZ ... yes ... quite a few do it. Not cheap mind you.

Selling in OZ is a different problem ... tax on import, compliance with Australian Design Rules, rego/mot ... not usually worth the hassle.

Thanks I will look into cost of shipping as I have a bike fully kitted bike with luggage. Do you need a carnet from NZ to OZ? What insurance would i need? Would i have to register is to an OZ adress?

Yes you still need the carnet. No you cannot sell or even gift the bike the bike to someone in Australia. Even if you abandon the bike here, you'll lose the money on your carnet and the carnet issuer will come knocking on your door. Can a non NZ resident get a carnet?
Quite honestly for all the hassle that Australia puts you through for a short stay its better to just buy a hack bike and sell it when you leave. Say you buy at $5000 and for a quick sale for $4000 that "loss" is probably close to what it would cost you to bring a bike over from NZ and back again, get a carnet, get insurance, get customs clearance, get a roadworthy inspection (not in NSW), get an overseas registered vehicle permit (not in NSW). I defy anyone to do that in less than a week and maybe even more if you hit some bureaucrat who likes making things hard for tourists - but will make the problem go away for $$$.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
