Registration of a 4x4 Botswana.

Hi All,

I´ve got a 4x4 registered in Australia that I keep in the southern part of Africa. As I want to keep it there for a long time and avoid the renewal of the Carnet every year, I would like to get it over on a different number plate. Anyone got any experience with registration of a car in ZAR, NAM, BOT or ZAM? It´s a 1995 model, which as far as I understand makes it difficult to do in ZAR and NAM?

Cheers, Ib.

Hi

same for South Africa. You need to be resident or have a work permit at least...

You can try with Cheryl Sandmann in Cape Town. There is a possiblity to register it on a SA resident.

Hi Phil/others,

Yes, my truck is now on Botswana number plates, and it was actually quite easy and straight forward.
If anyone wishes to get the details, then PM me.
The short version is this: Take the value stated on your Carnet, and then calculate 37% from that, this is what it will cost you.
It's very cheap to have a car on BOT plates, about 12 Euro's a year and insurance is optional.
Cheers, Ib.

Hi Silvi,

Thanks for the info, I'm buying another Landie in SA and will have a go at getting it registered there.

Cheers, Ib.
