Dar Es Salaam advice

Hi everyone,

My wife is going to Malawi to work for a year and we have a car (LC95) currently on a ferry bound for Dar Es Salaam. The car was bought last minute and shipped before being completely prepared (nothing major left to be done) so I'm looking for some advice from someone familiar with Dar Es Salaam. I will fly out with my wife to collect the car in the next couple of weeks and we'll drive it to Lilongwe with a bit of sight seeing along the way. Before shipping the car it was given a good service and prepared as best possible given the limited time we had but I ran out of time before needing to take it to the ferry in Killingholme.

Firstly, can anyone recommend a reliable mechanic in DES? I need a few very basic bits and pieces taken care of - new drop links fitted (I will take the new ones with me) and the air con regassed.

Secondly, the stereo (and possibly speakers too) are terrible. Can anyone recommend an audio place to get this sorted?

Lastly, and not car related, we bought a small tent here in the UK and put it inside the car prior to shipping. Hopefully it's not been stolen en route but it wasn't expensive anyway for that reason. I will take some items with me but when in DES I'd like to pick up some more camping gear as we'll be doing that primarily for the duration of the trip. Is there anywhere in or around DES for buying camping kit

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Ryan

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
