Peru- temporary bike storage
I'm figuring I'll be in Peru around Christmas time and I'd like and fly home to Canada for a week or so.
Can I leave my motorcycle in Peru for 7-10 days without a customs problem?

If this is possible, I would have a very happy esposa!.

I'll also need to figure out how/where to store it if anyone has suggestions

Peru Exit/Entry
I left my bike in Peru for 1 month in April/May of this year and there was no problem leaving the country or returning to Peru. You can get the 90 day TVIP so that you don't overstay and end up with legal problems. I stored my bike with a motorcycle shop and that worked very well as they did a complete service at the same time.

I left my bike at KTM Lima. I have a KTM so I had them do a service and change a couple of things. I have found that most bike shops will take care of your bike if they are getting some work out of the deal. For a short period of time(7-10 days) this should be no problem. I would think that one of the local hostals with bike parking would be a good choice as well.

I live in Peru, and run a Moto Adventure business from here! I would be glad to keep your moto for you so that you can go home for Christmas! And NO, I WILL NOT rent it out! Or charge you!

I live in Huanuco, in the center N/S and E/W of the country. Some think it is a bit out of the way, but I recommend that you do NOT go down the coast anyway. It is VERY BORING desert, everything is more expensive, and you don't get to see the best bits of Peru that way!

But yes, my friend Carlos Peralta (tell him I sent you if you go there) owns the KTM franchise and they will service and keep you bike for you for months even (if it is a KTM!)

That's a great offer Toby. I'll seriously consider that a top option. What would be the best way to get to Lima from your place to catch an international flight?

I'd like to send you a gpx of my Peru route (tentative). I have based it on reading some of your posts here but I'd love to get your feedback.

DRR,

The route I will recommend to you (your timing will be good for avoiding bad weather) will bring you right into Huanuco where I live. You can catch a VERY comfortable bus to Lima (8 hrs, 11pm to 7am) for about $40 or a plane (STARPERU) for about $100 right into the international airport.

I will be heading to Bolivia Jan 1 to begin our 'Follow the Dakar 2014' moto adventure ride, so I may not be there when you come back from Christmas, but no problemo as my wife will be there.

I did not realize that my route will take me so close to Dakar! This is great news because I didn't plan it that way

I intended to ride from Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama about the same time the Dakar will be there which will be very cool.

We will be riding out of Santa Cruz, Bolivia heading south to Salta on the 6th of January if you want to catch us there and ride down to catch the Dakar with us

This is good news, I'm looking to store my 4x4 in Peru while taking a flight out of the country for about a month.

Anyone know anywhere in Arequipa that could store a Unimog?
