Bike purchase with agreed buy back?

Hi, has anyone had any experience in Santiago with purchasing a motorbike (new or used options), then at the end of your travels, the same business buys back your motorbike for 60% of purchase price?

Any experiences/pros/cons of such an arrangement?

Looking at this arrangement as an alternative of buying a bike in Santiago, then trying to resell it ourselves. Thinking it may be more time efficient than having to hang around to sell the bike at the end of our trip.

Thoughts/ experiences appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like a good plan - I've read of dealerships in Australia doing that, but not elsewhere. What dealership is this place?

Not done it, but I believe Ride Chile offer that deal, we rented from them earlier this year and they told us about the deal. It sounds good, and I would say they are honest guys who will not try and do you over.

Obviously any damage to the bike would reduce the buy back :-)

buy back offer in Peru

Toby, based in Peru and has a buy back offer. Roughly speaking, you buy the bike (new or used from his tour equipment) he arranges the paperwork. Pretty close to sign and go. If you want to travel outside of Peru its something like 10-14 days while the paperwork is processed in your name. Everything will be sent to you by courier within Peru. On the back end, the buy back is based on very reasonable daily rental. He has other offers. Follow this link for and information and contact him for particulars. I am seriously considering getting a bike from Toby for a trip planed for 2016...

Its mostly 250 cc Chinese bikes that are a lot of fun off the tarmac. I recall he has a couple of 450 cc bikes, but I'm not sure if those are offered for sale.

Yes, I have experience of this. I did a trip round Chile and Argentina in 2011 with my daughter and a friend. We bought three new Honda Falcons from ::: Honda Center ::: Representante oficial Honda Motorcyles (from memory). The owner spoke quite good English. At the end of the trip, we sold two back to him and one to a German couple (who offered a better price). Obviously the dealer cannot guarantee a specific buy-back price because they don't know what condition the bike will be in. I managed to keep mine shiny side up for 9,000km, but my daughter had a spectacular tank-slapper-somersault-in-the-middle-of-nowhere. So we got somewhat different trade-in prices. ;-)

Motocolombia wil sell their bike to you and buy it back at lesser price after you are finished with it. They are located in Cali, Colombia which might be a good location giving you the ability to loop around South America and return to Cali at end of your trip. Round trip to Medellin from US is cheapest of anywhere then you can take bus from Medellin to Cali for $30 USD.

I've rented BMW moto from them for few days and great service. I would recommend their business although I would bring my own GPS if I do it again because it took a day getting used to their GPS. GPS is more of a personal preference thing so I can't really say it was a negative thing.

Still doin it in Peru

Yes, I offer that service, and given enough time can get you most any motorcycle (new or used) that is available in Peru, not just from my fleet. We prep it, paper it, plate it, and it is ready for you when you arrive. 3 hr of paperwork and you are off!

If you choose a new bike, I need a month to have it ready. If you want a specific used bike, I would need more lead time.

Charapasgan,

This sounds really interesting. Where can I get a price list for the bikes you recommend and what you have available now? Also, can you provide more detail on your buyback offer?

PM already sent.

Thanks!
