Great Route Hitting Many High Points of Western US

For those looking for a great route in the western US, this is one I made up for an Aussie friend that hits many of the high points. He covered it in 10 days. It hits mountains, deserts, canyons and coastlines.

Impressive selection given the wealth of choices.

Virginia City and the 'Gold Country' is well chosen. Rt 49 and the Lakes Basin area is precious and relatively unknown even by Californians !

Oh well . . . Vegas. Go thru it, not to it.

The CA coast NORTH of SF is amazing even though the run SOUTH gets all the attention.

Don't Forget Sherman Pass

Afraid not. In the US I just use Google Maps for routes since you can usually get a cell data signal on most roads for the phone app. In Mexico, I plan to constrain the apps that have access to location and data so I won't need to add much data to a prepaid sim. From what some of the regular travelers in Mexico indicate in this thread, there are plenty of chains with wifi in towns and cities of much size. That's when I'll measure distances and do a route recon.

Sherman Pass on the road over the southern Sierras from US-395 is a fabulous ride many don't know about. Great wilderness country and tons of curves going up and down the mountains.
