Looking for company of 3-4 riders for a cross country ride...

Hi all,

My name is Greg and I'm new to the site. I have been exploring the site quite a lot over the last couple of weeks; also I'm heading upto the HU meeting in the Barringtons in Oct-Nov for the weekend so I may get to meet others there. I've had a long absence from xcountry riding of which I have in years past done a lot off - so I'm rusty and am now brushing up and re-honing those old skills.

BUT I am off on a cross country run in April-May 2015 from Boulia QLD to Halls Creek WA via the Donohue and Plenty Highways to Alice for a couple days as a layover before travelling the Tanami Track. Is anyone out there interested in accompanying me on this? I have no qualms about doing this on my own (although my wife is having kittens about) and company is always a good thing. I'm just a potterer on the tracks I don't ride at speed and take my time (body-armoured to the teeth as I can't afford anymore broken bones).

My bike is a DR650 and will be prepped for the journey by VSM, Inverell, and I'm amassing the gear needed for just such a trip. Packs, racks, PLB, sat Phone, spares, tools and m/c workshop to learn the bits and pieces of the machine...the list goes on. It'll be a long haul back over the 'top end' back to near Sydney, the start point for me.

If all is OK with the bike I thought I might poke my head into the Bungles and check out Lake Galilee and Lake Dunne NE of Aramac in QLD on the way back. All is flexible and no specific plan other than the crossing from Qld to WA.

Hope for some interest but no qualms if not so....

regards
Greg

Surely someone's got to be interested in this ride? I could think of worse things to be doing
I can't make it as I'll be riding elsewhere

Certainly don't let the fact of travelling alone deter you, as a matter of fact you will definitely meet more people

Cross Country Ride

Hi Andrew,

Sorry I haven't been on the site for a long time. I am just clearing up left over things 'hanging' on different web sites. I haven't been on the ride across from Boulia Qld to Halls Ck WA. Some health issues popped up and had to be dealt with. I'm about to sell off the DR; as much as I love it and love to ride the dirt I can't keep on it for much longer. As a lot of things we do in life we leave things till it's too late, and I think I've done just that, so my trip is cancelled.

Sorry mate, I think it would have been a nice run to do.

All the best
KirkFord aka Greg

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
