eventually got my bike ready for its First MOT since being rebuilt and apparently it was its first MOT since being imported (or at least the first time someones picked up on it)

the problem is that the headlights kicks up to the offside as it is an import. The guy at the testing place said it would be costly and difficult to find a replacement.

I was wondering if anyone new of a deflector cover or something similar.

or even better does anyone have an old one lying around their garage up for sale?

its a Yamaha XT 600 btw, not 100% on the year but from the parts ov replaced Iv gathered that its about a 1990 660e (3TB)

hi there i would look on ebay shops for a uk vershion of your modals headlight (enduro spares) seem to have most things and there prices seen good , i carnt see it been a lot of money for one . if you can not find one you can get the cheap aftermarket cowels with built in headlights to tide you over till a yamaha one turns up. zigzag.

My Honda Dominator is a French model, imported into the UK I don't know when, but I bought it before its first MOT.
It failed on the headlight (I didn't realise it dipped to the right) and the tester said to buy a stick-on continental headlamp converter that you use for going to Europe.

That makes the dip beam stay straight ahead, and it's passed about six MOTs since, at various different testing stations.

The converter I bought (a 'universal' one if I remember right) came with comprehensive instructions on what shape to cut the sticker and where to stick it in relation to the markings on the headlamp glass, and it worked fine.
But if your bike is somewhat older its headlight might not have the markings on the glass showing where the sticker should be stuck, so trial and error may be needed.

Have a 1989 XT600Z Tenere 3AJ and mine was a German Import, twin headlight job and mine failed on the same thing first year that I got it MOT'd .
My MOT guy just stuck a piece of black tape across the lens and since then it's passed every time. If you need a pic then send me a email and I'll send it to you.

My 1vj tenere has a continental headlamp and I "convert" it for the mot by sticking a piece of black masking tape in the bottom right quadrant of the headlamp. this seems to satisfy the tester as it stops the dip shining into an oncoming drivers eyes (although it's not the greatest headlamp in the world, so i'm sure they'd cope).

It seems churlish to fail on something like this, mand any MOT tester worth his salt would suggest this dodge. It sounds like your test centre are after the cash and it might be worth finding one who are a bit more cheery and bike friendly for next time!

sounds like your MoT bloke is either trying to screw you for a new headlight or cant be bothered to tell you simple ways round it.

all i do on my '97 XT600E is put a triangle of black duct tape over the lens where it would flare up to the right. (be warned, this is opposite to where you think it will be! experiment against the garage door or a wall)
this has been perfectly adequate and legal for every MoT its had.
