Brake Pad Wear Advice

Hi

Just wanted your opinions on my brake pads, just got the bike from a dealer and was checking all the fluid levels. The brake fluid level is just on the lower marker so prompted me to check pad wear. Is it time to change theses front pads?

Sorry for the poor pictures.

They certainly look like they should be replaced to me, you don't say where you are but that would be an MOT test advisory if not failure in the UK.

Yes you need to change, and you need to fix the caliper. Its pulling one side, maye need to remove piston overhaul them.

I am in the UK,the bike had a fresh MOT put on it before I brought it (40miles ago), it passed with no advisories!!!!

Can I ask what you mean by pulling on one side? Is that the same as locked piston?

And a piston overhaul meaning new pistons or just a clean up?

So use a clamp and move piston in, push them out again with lever and repeat this several times. Then do the test again and check if they come out even against brake disc. If they dont, yes you must remove piston and clean up rust/dirt inside. If piston have heavy rust you need to change it.

If you have just bought that bike from a dealer I would go back to them and tell them to replace the pads and look at the caliper free of charge, they should never of sold it like that or given it an MOT which can be used as leverage if they don't want to do it.
It could do with the pistons removed, lubricated and re-installed, possibly new seals and fresh fluid.

Thanks, I contacted the dealership I brought it from and they leaned the pistons and put new pads on, checked for leaks and made sure they moved freely, have a look at the pictures...
