Hello from Mexico

Hi everybody…

Mi name is Luis Jiménez and I'm a rider.
HI LUIIIIIS!! (I'll like to hear, just like as if I were in an AA meeting with fellow riding addicts )

I live in Guadalajara, the second most important city in country (Sorry fellow people from Monterrey Mexico, but you have to deal with that) and I ride my motorcycle for commuting, and short local travels on the weekend when possible. I ride a 2013 KTM 690, a Duke to be more precise, and I'm a former BMW rider, I owned a 650 and a 1200 GS, I enjoyed both bikes a lot, but I like changes, so I gave a try to KTM and so far I'm delighted too.

I'm a chef and I live a hectic life, my passion is to enjoy outdoors life and adventure, too bad that I have tight schedule for such adventures, but I'm working hard to be able to take a season off from my work very soon and to head towards the horizon in my bike. I found the book "Uneasy rider" and I got absolutely captivated by it, and I remember that in a line I read about this community, so, here I am. I'm a person willing to learn and try new things and now I want to join this great club of people willing to leave boredom behind and follow a dream.

A few years ago, I met two guys that were basically in the middle of nothing stucked without gas in one of his bikes (KLR's) both from Canada and I just stopped to see if I could be helpful, (an habit that I have while riding a motorcycle and see a fellow rider stopped), and to my good luck I could help getting 1 1/2 gallons of fuel for them, we had a great chit-chat,and a few days later they joined me in my town, where I invited them for dinner in my restaurant. It was a memorable night. We lost touch, actually we never even exchanged personal info, I just had the privilege of serving good food to cool guys, I enjoyed their conversations about adventures and mishaps that since that day kept me inspired.

Months after that, I broke with my girlfriend and to deal with my sadness, I went to Spain, rented a beemer and took a trip around the country, every single thing that could go wrong…Went wrong. It was Murphy's law at his best, but anyway, the feeling of being living and Adventure on the road made my pain more bearable and it was some kind of new beginning. So, my passion for the road is still there and hopefully I'll be on the road for the next summer.

Besides introducing myself, I just want to let know to riders from this site that if any of you happen to pass thru this beautiful city while in México, let me know with a P.M. A few days in advance.
I'll be more than glad to help if necessary and there is always a cold and a plate of good food on me for adventurers willing to stop by.

Best regards and happy trails.
Luis

!Bienvenido Luis!

I like Guadalajara a lot ... and would love to stop by next time I'm in the region. Been quite a few years since I was there ... but I think you're correct ... it IS Mexico's 2nd most important city for sure. (after DF)

Monterey? They are too cheap there, no?

Where did you learn such perfect English? I wish my Spanish was so good!
What sort of food do you prepare in your restaurant?
Maybe someday I can sample "una comida"?

Ride safe, saludos,
Patricio

Hi Mollydog!!

Thanks for complimenting me on my English! I learned a bit in school and a bit more for having an American girlfriend long ago there is no better way to learn!

And Yes, Guadalajara is the second city after Mexico city, or as you wrote it perfectly D.F. Very funny to see that you know that we consider people of Monterrey cheap, actually they are not, but as Mexicans we're always looking for an excuse to tease those around us and we're relentless on making jokes on our fellow neighbors.

The food that I prepare in my restaurant is Thai inspired, is a bit of a fusion concept. I lived for a short season in Thailand and I was traveling on south east asia for a while and I was learning that cuisine after long training and working on French cuisine, and of course Mexican. You'll be my guest if you happen to visit my town.

Guadalajara is a great place to visit and also a very good stop for people traveling across America, it has a great weather and even not being as big as Mexico city, you can find workshops and official dealers of any major motorcycle brand,so, any repair or tune up is easy and affordable to get, the city is very rich on traditions and on historic places that worth a visit and it has an strategic location that makes easy to travel to anywhere… And now that you have a friend here…Is a must.

If you happen to come, let me know, you have food, drink and a guided tour!

Best regards and ride safe!!

Hi Paul!

Yes, actually a great combination, being confined in a kitchen is perfectly balanced by a long ride on the open roads! indeed, a very good combination that brings balance to our lives!!

Best regards and thanks for stopping by!!

Hi Luis and welcome the the HUBB! I never made it to Guadalajara but spent five month backpacking around Mex, from Chiapas to Monterrey, and have to say it was by far my most favourite country and I've travelled the US Southwest, Asia, India, Central and South America. After my trip here in South Am, I hope to come up and visit a girl in DF, and possibly buy a beat-up second hand Cargo Honda 150 and drive up to Real de Catorce, one of the most amazing places on earth. I will try to stop by and say hi!!

Ride safe,
rtw

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
