Western Africa, to Cape Town

Hi, me and my OH are riding C90 copies from the UK to Cape Town.

At the moment we are in Rabat sorting visas, will be in Mauritania in two weeks time and Mali three weeks after that, from then on who knows - We are going to Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo, DRC, Tanzania (maybe) Namibia and SA.

Anyone going to be in these parts in the near-ish future?

Enjoy your trip, wish you a safe journey!

Currently i didnt read from any rejected overlanders on that route because of ebola - and I read a lot about... I read about overlanders who did cross borders in Westafrica without much hassle, so go for it

Ebola outbreak is causing travel restrictions down the west coast

Africa overland - Travels with Thimba

Gee has reported that a recent visit to a country with Ebola will result in South Africe denying entry at the border

Zed - Will reply to pm in just a sec.

I guess we will have to see how we get on, it'll likely be a few months before we encounter any issues, who knows what will change...!?

That is no showstopper. There are enough routes open, also when Southafrica denying an entry. Probably they dont look after, when you did spend some time in neighbour countries. Otherwise you have to leave out SA, when you dont have a 2nd Passport.

Gee seems to have more trouble because of the dog, than of ebola... Also he stated that the Cameroon/Nigeria Border is closed, what is not approved till now by an overlander.

Instead are some overlander crossing the high risk areas and borders there these days:

Hi, we are currently in Burkina Faso, going from here to Benin, Nigeria and we really hope to cross to Cameroon. We will be in Benin at the end of this week. If someone else is crossing nigeria around same time, let us know

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
