Our trip did not work out unfortunately as we arranged everything a little too late: 4 weeks was not enough time to get the code and the MFA said they needed more time.
The agency told us this meant another 3 to 4 weeks, which we didn't have. It was also a bit of a pointless statement as it would have meant entering in a new date and for the MFA that means starting the process again.

If you a not British, Canadian or American of course you don't need the guide and getting your number normally takes 2 weeks, but at busy times (eg July) can take 4 weeks.

There is another thread here on the HUBB about not saying you have a car. On the one I remember there is a contribution by Bartosz, if you want to search that way.

All the best
Helen

If you aren't from USA you shouldn't need a guide. At least everything I've seen says that. Brits and some other nationalities need to apply for a visa in advance. Irish and others can just turn up at the border get a visa.

I'd be more concerned about about crossing Turkey and or Northern Iraq (deepening on route) to get to Iran. Who knows what ISIS might be up to by 2015.

Overland in Iran

Hi guys,

I have mentioned that a few times in a few threads. If you are an overlander coming to Iran you don´t need a guide. Don´t let the travel agents in Iran fool you. If you need help with visa I could suggest you a few travel agencies. But, don´t tell them that you are coming overland otherwise they will tell you that you need a guide and they will not get you a visa. Only if you are brit, American or Canadian you will need a guide.

Any question you have just drop me a line or check my blog with some info. notjustatourist.com/blog Go the older posts!

Cheers
Mahsa

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
