Well, it's not exactly that simple - there are different currencies in some of the EU member states (quite a lot of the Eastern European states still have their own currency), and you will encounter border formalities going in and out of EU member states that have not yet joined the "Schengen" treaty group, but for sure the money-changing issues and border-crossing issues within the whole group of EU members is much less troublesome than it is once you get out of the EU entirely.

I posted a write-up about my experiences in Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey (rode there for just about all of September, 2011) at this link: Notes from a September 2011 ride through Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece. Hopefully that information will be of use to you.

We do not have the euro in Denmark , nither does Sweden.

The ferry trip from Harwich to Esbjerg is never cheap, especially with a vehicle, I did it last week one way with my motorbike for £170.

I had planned a tour as follows.

Up Norway to North Cape, cross into Russia down to Murmansk then St. Petersburg, out to Finland and Helsinki ferry to Sweden and then return to origin over Norway.

Anyone who is keen on this route. It's a load of kilometers, but also a very scenic tour.

Hi all,
I've done a fair bit of Eastern Europe, made it as far east as Kiev in July. I'd be keen to join any trip heading in that general direction. I've not done Belarus yet so would be keen to go there, I think you can tour the Minsk motorcycle factory in Minsk, something I'd love to do.
Downside for me is I'll be working abroad next year and don't know when I'll be returning to the UK.
I'll monitor this page and gob of as and when I can. I can generally go from zero to being on the Eurostar/ferry in 24 hours so could always be a late joiner if needed. If and when a route/plan is laid down I'll start on the Belarus visa request!!

A/S/L = 50/male/Bromley Kent. Ride a 1200GSA, done a lot of Europe, last few years mainly East.

Is anything firm happening as a result of this? I'm interested in riding to Romania, especially if it takes in the Transfăgărăşan Road and Transylvania.

I see someone has booked Eurotunnel on 28 July heading through Romania onwards (to Iran!!!). If that fits your dates maybe worth checking (a) if he's still going and (b) if it's okay to ride along the first bit with him.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
