Antarctica

Heading to Ushuaia in November. One of the side trip I would like to make is a trip to Antarctica. Most of the prices have been out of my range but I heard you could get much better last minute deals. Any insight, tips, connections?

It has certainly been possible in the past but they only come up a day or two before sailing and it helps to be in the travel agents when they do. When you get to Ushuaia try some of the agents on the high street and see what they say, it is an awesome trip.

It's a popular deal. I did it myself.

Booking in advance is crazy. £10,000 plus. So I hear.

Once you get to Ushuaia, make yourself available to travel. There are a number of travel agents there. The town is smallish so easy enough to compare prices.

You want a cancellation. Luckily, the people who book these trips back home are usually old and rich. They often die or are too ill to travel so they cancel last minute.

I ended up getting a 14 day trip for £2,250. (This was 2008). I had to leave the next day. I left my bike at Rio Pipo campsite.

Still expensive but the cheapest I was ever going to get my ass to the big white continent. It was an AMAZING Five star adventure and worth every penny.

Do it....

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
