China Bike Availability in Colombia for SA Travel?
Would appreciate any information on not only the availability, but the feasibility of buying a China bike in Colombia for a trip to the South Cone.
Regarding availability, I'm assuming that new bikes would be plentiful in Medellin and Bogota. I'm also assuming that a thumper could be had for less than $2000. Re feasibility, any pointers on the ease of purchase for cross-border travel would be great. Thanks! Jim |

Thanks, Afear. I'd be tempted to take you up on the offer if you can hold out until November, when I arrive in Colombia.
Regarding local buying, do you know how to avoid paying import duties and fees? I'm assuming there would be no restrictions to take the bike out of the country? Thanks again, Jim |

Colombia is one of the most bike-friendly countries in South America. Literally 9 out of 10 vehicles on the road are motorcycles. You will be able to find small displacement China bikes everywhere.

Of course, my question on avoiding duties and taxes was aimed at LEGAL methods. I just now realized that my post could easily be interpreted otherwise! So, then, for a bike at ~2 million COP, I'm wondering how much government mordida I should expect to pay. |

I just saw a photo of a Yamaha 250x that looked outSTANDing! Wondering if the Colombian version is Chinese-made?

Hi,
We have 2 chilean-registered Yamahas YBR 125 for sale, bought in October 2012 in Santiago, till now 14'000 km are done. We want half price for them = $1'000 each We have all the papers, can arrange by notario to transfer them to other traveller, who will leave Colombia before 90 days. The only problem is, that we have to leave from Bogota on 21st Feb, so have to sell them till that time somewhere More info on priv, Rafal
